HRH Prince Michael of Kent Visits Japan to Launch New Collection

Backes & Strauss and their official partner in Japan, World Commerce Corporation, were delighted to welcome His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent to Japan this March. Over the course of 3 days, HRH, as the Royal Ambassador for Backes & Strauss, attended a number of VIP and press events hosted in Kyoto, Tokyo as well as the historic town of Karuizawa.

On the first evening, HRH attended a VIP client dinner at the authentically Japanese-style Suiran Hotel set along the Hozu River, which was preceded by the traditional Japanese incense ceremony, also known as Koh-do, led by the Koh-do master Mr. Souhitsu Hachiya.

The second day saw Prince Michael welcome press as well as local VIP clients at the prestigious AMAN Hotel in Tokyo where he officially announced the launch of the Royal Kent Collection; a collection of timepieces for both men and women, which he co-designed with Backes & Strauss.

Last but not least, in his continuous endeavour to support and represent British excellence, on the final day of his Royal visit to Japan, HRH travelled to the scenic town of Karuizawa. As the guest of honour of one of Backes & Strauss’ VIP clients in Japan – and with the support of Aston Martin, Bentley and Jaguar Land Rover – Prince Michael enjoyed a picturesque drive up towards Mount Asama; an occasion very much reminiscent of the Concours of Elegance, the annual car event in the United Kingdom, of which Prince Michael is a patron.

Following his visit to Japan, HRH Prince Michael of Kent, as the Royal Brand Ambassador of Backes & Strauss, will undertake further trips visiting other key markets during the rest of the year.

THE ROYAL KENT COLLECTION

As part of Prince Michael’s collaboration with Backes & Strauss, we are pleased to announce the Royal Kent Collection. This series of timepieces is based on the iconic oval-shaped Regent collection, which is also Prince Michael’s favourite amongst the brand’s array of designs.

For the men’s collection, we took the most powerful elements from HRH’s Coat of Arms and set them in a dark blue dial. For the ladies’ collection, the mother-of-pearl dial will be set with diamonds and feature Prince Michael’s wife’s, Princess Michael of Kent, Coat of Arms.

Both these collections are the result of Backes & Strauss’ continued passion in craftsmanship.
