Tears of the African Elephant
In support of the Japanese NGO Tears of the African Elephant, Backes & Strauss together with World Commerce Corporation, Backes & Strauss distributor in Japan, is delighted to launch two one-off masterpieces.
In reaction to the surge in demand for ivory, especially from the Asian markets, the ‘Tears of The African Elephant’ charity, founded by two Japanese ladies has at its heart, the objective of promoting amongst the Japanese public the dangers facing the livelihood of the African Elephant. With the official support and endorsement of His Royal Highness, The Duke of Cambridge, Backes & Strauss has crafted two very special timepieces that will be auctioned later this year in order to raise funds for the Tears of the African Elephant campaign.
Whilst both unique timepieces poetically transport the onlooker into the epicenter of the NGO’s campaign, each story unfolds differently; whilst one timepiece places the African Elephant amidst the trees, the other shows the African Elephant sheltered by the ominous trees. Both are set within the Backes & Strauss iconic oval-shaped dial, the Regent, each featuring two rows of diamonds.
