Watch Pro 2024 - Diamond delight: Backes & Strauss salutes the sun

Backes & Strauss has produced a stunning watch set with more than 200 diamonds

But it is more than just a watch, the company says, it is a “work of art, a statement of luxury, and a testament to the extraordinary potential of diamond craftsmanship”.

The dial of the Backes & Strauss Berkeley 40 Namib Sun is set with 96 vivid yellow diamonds.

The yellow diamonds are from Namibia and total more than 18 carats.

The 18k white gold case is set with 100 white diamonds, adding up to more than eight carats.

The buckle is also diamond-set, with 30 ideal cut stones adding up to just under half a carat, and there is even a small diamond in the crown.

The watch was made in collaboration with Diamwill Antwerp, a firm with premises in both Belgium and Hong Kong that is known for its use of coloured stones.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with Diamwill Antwerp on the BY 40 Namib Sun,” said Vartkess Knadjian, CEO of Backes & Strauss.

He added: “This timepiece is a celebration of the finest diamonds and the pinnacle of watchmaking artistry. The vivid yellow diamonds from Namibia and the flawless white baguettes set into the case exemplify our commitment to excellence and innovation.”

Backes & Strauss was established in 1789, making it the world’s oldest diamond company.

The watch is in Backes & Strauss’s Berkeley series, and has a 40mm case and an automatic movement.
